Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ)

Santiago de Compostela Airport
Santiago de Compostela Airport (or Aeropuerto de Santiago de Compostela) is an international airport serving the autonomous community and historical region of Galicia in Spain. It is the 2nd busiest airport in northern Spain after Bilbao Airport.
The airport is located in the parish of Lavacolla, 12 kilometers away from Santiago de Compostela and handled nearly 3 million passengers in 2018. It is the main focus city of Vueling in the northwest Iberian Peninsula, and Ryanair's only focus city in Northern Spain. The Christian pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago runs near the airport.
Airport Terminals and Airlines
The New terminal at Santiago de Compostela Airport officially opened on 13 October 2011, and passenger operations transferred there the following day. It is adjacent to the old terminal and has a size of 74,000 sq m. It has 22 check-in desks, 3 security checkpoints, 13 gates of which 5 have air-bridges and 4 baggage carousels. The baggage hall is split into two zones, one for Schengen flights and one for Non-Schengen. It can handle as many as 4 million passengers per year, so future expansions are not excluded.
As of February 2019, Santiago de Compostela airport is served by multiple airlines, offering regular and seasonal flights. They include Aer Lingus, Air Europa, Air Nostrum, easyJet, Evelop, Gestair, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Swiss International Airlines and Vueling Airlines.
Airport Services and Facilities
Overnight sleepers are common at this airport, due in part to pilgrims along the nearby Camino de Santiago. If you are planning to spend the night, head to the upstairs area, where seats are armrest-free, power outlets plentiful, and the vibe is quiet. For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels nearby.
ATMs can be found on multiple airport locations. Duty Free shopping od fine spirits, tobacco products, perfumes and chocolates is available (between 5:00 AM – 10:30 PM) as well as a small selection of shops. Pilgrim's shop is a place where you can buy luggage, suitcases, pilgrim canes, bicycles, liquids, etc., in addition to products and souvenirs while on the road to Santiago. Relay store offers all the national press and a wide variety of foreign magazines, stationery, photo material, batteries, candies, etc. Malabarium is a shop specializing in decoration and accessories with a multitude of fashion items and gifts.
If you are hungry, do note that there are only three food concessions available at the airport, none of which are open 24 hours. These include Eating Point Food Court which offers Lavazza, Sabores de Gallecia and Pizza N’ Co (Airside); Il Caffe di Roma (Landside) and La Pausa (Airside). Lockers and bicycle storage is available and for such service, see the Information Desk.

Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available at Santiago Airport. Just connect to the “kubiwireless” network. There is a First Aid Station located on the 1st floor, departures level, in case of an emergency. Power outlets are also available throughout the terminal.
Ground Transportation
A city bus service departs every 30 minutes, operated by Empresa Freire, and connects the airport with the center of Santiago de Compostela, and the bus and train terminals in the city. From the station in Santiago de Compostela, private coach operators run direct services on multiple daily basis to most cities and towns in Galicia, including A Coruña, Ferrol, Lugo, Ourense, Pontevedra and Vigo, as well as long-distance services to the rest of Spain, and international services. In addition, three regional services link the airport directly to A Coruña, to Lugo, including several stops in the French Way of the Camino de Santiago, and to the A Mariña coastal area (home to As Catedrais beach) in the province of Lugo. There are no rail facilities at the airport. However, the train station in Santiago de Compostela, located 12 kilometers away, is connected to the airport by the city bus service every 30 minutes.
In addition to this public transportation option (or perhaps paying for a taxi service), you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style.
